The economy of the Borough has been growing strongly since
the early 1980's and is recognised as one of the most dynamic towns
in the UK due to its young population, economic growth, inward
investment and ability to create employment. Some 4,000 firms have
located within the area, the majority of which are small to
medium-sized enterprises, with an economic powerhouse of 50
internationally recognised organisations, employing 150 people or
more.
One of Telford's major successes has been the high level of
overseas investment. The area now has over 130 overseas companies
employing over 15,000 people, almost one fifth of the total
workforce. The highest numbers of employees are in Japanese
operations closely followed by companies from France and the United
States.
Situated in beautiful Shropshire countryside one of Telford's
main attractions is its central UK location, 30 miles west of
Birmingham on the M54 motorway. A first class road system ensures
easy access throughout the town and all business locations are
within a few minutes of the motorway.
