If you own or rent a non-domestic (commercial) property
then you are likely to pay Business Rates.
To check who should pay Business Rates, you can contact our
Customer Contact Centre.
However the following generally apply:
Occupied Properties - the occupier is usually liable to pay
Business Rates. For example, the leaseholder or an
owner/occupier.
Unoccupied Properties - when a property becomes empty, the owner or
leaseholder will become liable to pay Business Rates, but they can
be eligible for
unoccupied rates which will reduce the bill.
If a property becomes occupied or vacant, it is important that you
let us know straight away, so that we can issue you with the
correct bill.
