Funeral Costs and Financial Help |
| This page offers guidance to the way charges for a
funeral are worked
out. | |
|
Funeral costs may vary Charges for
the same services may vary considerably from one funeral director
to another. You many wish to get more than one quote to compare
costs.
Disbursements
The overall cost for a funeral service is also likely to include
'disbursements' these are fees paid to others on your behalf. Ask
the funeral director for a written quotation detailing all of these
fees before finalising your booking.
Examples of disbursements include payments to the crematorium, to a
minister, doctors' certificates, newspaper announcements and
flowers.
Payment from the deceased's estate
If you arrange a funeral you are responsible for paying the bill.
Funeral payments are normally recoverable from the deceased's
estate, but you are advised to check before finalising a
booking.
Value for money
Remember, the cheapest service is not necessarily the best value
for money.
