The Nationality Checking Service (NCS) is a partnership between
the Home Office UK Border Agency and local councils in England and
Wales. This partnership allows those people applying for British
citizenship to make their applications, in person, at their local
council offices.
Telford & Wrekin Registration Services offers this optional
service to help simplify the citizenship application process for a
small fee. Specially trained staff will check and ensure that
applications are completed correctly and have the necessary
supporting documents such as passports, certificates and proof of
English proficiency.
Valuable documents will be photocopied and certified allowing
those using this service to keep their passports and important
documents rather than sending them through to the Home Office. The
completed applications will then be forwarded to the Home Office by
special delivery post.

Applicants must satisfy three main criteria:
They must have an appropriate residential qualification
dependant of the section of the Immigration Act under which they
are applying.
They must have settled status in the United Kingdom.
They must meet the language / life in the UK requirement
.
The National Checking Service has been introduced to help
applicants submit their completed application forms correctly, the
first time around. It allows clients to retain their important
documents and also reduces the number of requests for further
information from the Home Office.
Application forms can be downloaded from
www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk
(Looking for a form). Once completed, these will be checked for
accuracy and that all relevant sections are completed. All
supporting documents will be checked and certified so that you may
keep the originals. Please note that we must see the original
documents and not photocopies. All applications will then be
forwarded to the Home Office by special delivery post.
The National Checking Service offered by Telford & Wrekin
Registration Services is optional and you may use other agents such
as solicitors or deal with the Home Office directly.
There are a number of Councils throughout England and Wales
offering this service and you can find a list of all participating
authorities on the Office of the Immigration Service Commissioner
(OISC), website at:
www.oisc.gov.uk
You are able to submit your application to any participating
local authority.
Complete and accurate applications are dealt with more
efficiently than applications that are incomplete. The processing
time for each application varies according to individual
circumstances and is dependant on how many applications are under
consideration at a particular time.
