At this office we:
- Register births and deaths.
- Issue copy birth, death and civil partnership and marriage
certificates from the registers which are in our custody.
- Attend to the legal preliminaries to marriage and civil
partnerships and also taking Notices of Marriage for both civil
marriages (held at the register office or approved premises) and
religious marriages at all non-conformist churches and some Church
of England churches.
- Conduct civil marriages/civil partnership ceremonies at the
register office. Also we conduct weddings/civil partnership
ceremonies at any of the premises approved by the council within
the Borough of Telford & Wrekin.
How long will it take?
- Registering a birth will usually take between 15 - 20
minutes.
- Registering a death will take at least 25 minutes.
- Giving a notice of marriage usually takes about 30
minutes.
- We will issue copy certificates as quickly as we can. This is a
24 hour service. You can arrange to collect the certificate on the
next working day or have the certificate posted to you by first
class mail that day.
Our promise to you is that:
- Our staff will be polite, courteous and identifiable by
name.
- You will be interviewed in private.
- All information given to us will be treated in the strictest of
confidence and we will not pass it on to anyone who is not entitled
to it by law.
- We will explain what can be quite complex rules and
regulations.
- A member of staff will see within five minutes of your arrival
at the office. Our aim is that you will see a Registrar within 25
minutes.
- If you telephone us, the call will be answered promptly within
five rings.
- If you apply by post for a copy certificate from a register
held by us, we will guarantee to send it out to you by return of
post.
- If we are unable to issue a certificate than a reply, giving
the reason why, is sent by return of post.
- If you are intending to marry or have a civil partnership at
one of the council's approved premises you will be given the option
of personalising the ceremony by adding readings and music of your
choice, within the meaning of the Marriage Act 1995 and the Civil
Partnerships Act 2004
If things go wrong or if you want to compliment the
service:
Unfortunately, things may go wrong from time to time. If they
do, we want to put them right quickly. Or, you may be delighted by
the service received and want to compliment the staff or make a
comment.
You can either speak to the Registrar on duty, or ask to speak to
the Superintendent Registrar. If staff at the office cannot resolve
your complaint, you may speak to H.M. Proper Officer for
Registration on 01952 382016.
As part of the council, the Registration Service is also subject
to the council's complaints procedure. Copies of the
leaflet detailing the joint complaints procedure are available on
the Reception Desk at the Register Office. Leaflets detailing the

We will try to deal with your complaint immediately but if this
is not possible, you will receive an initial written response
within five working days and a full response within 20 working
days.
