At Telford & Wrekin Council we are committed to
clamping down on dog mess - let's face it, it is unpleasant, but it
is also avoidable.
Failing to clear up after your dog is irresponsible and causes
upset for anyone who walks in it, gets it onto their clothes or
walks it into their home.
It is also highly dangerous and can lead to blindness through an
infection called Toxocara Canis.
In Telford & Wrekin we are trying to stop these problems by
making it as easy as possible to clean up after your dog. We have
installed more than 1,400 litter/dog bins across the borough,
particularly in areas where we think you might need them.
Responsible dog owners clean up after their dog by using a
bag or a poop
scoop to remove their dog's mess and dispose of it
safely.
We have also made it illegal to allow your dog, or any dog you are
in charge of, to foul the footpath or any other public place
particularly land designated under The Dogs ( Fouling of Land ) Act
1996, including parks and open spaces, footpaths, roads, and school
playing fields.
Under the Act it is the owner's responsibility to clean up after
their dog, whether a bin is available to deposit the waste in or
not.
But be warned! Owners who fail to clean up can face a fine of up to
£1000.
A simple plastic bag or a purpose made poop scoop bag can be
used to clear up the dog foul.
Telford & Wrekin Council gives out poop scoop bags free of
charge from a
number of
outlets across the borough.
These can be emptied in one of our specially designed litter bins
or you can take it home and dispose of it in your grey domestic
refuse bin.
Every time you walk your dog - remember to take a poop scoop like
you would remember a lead.
It is no defence to claim ignorance of the dog's actions - it is
every dog owner's responsibility to 'bag it and bin it'
Report dog owners who don't clean up after their dog.
If you know of a dog owner that regularly fails to clean up,
