| If you feel that you are experiencing anti-social
behaviour from your neighbours, don't suffer in
silence. | |
|
We would suggest that you take the following steps to
resolve the issues:
- Talk to the person causing the problem and explain how they are
affecting you. They may not even be aware they are causing you a
problem.
- Try to reach a compromise
Do this as early as possible before the problem gets worse or
before it starts to really get you down.
If things don't improve:
- Start keeping a log of the nuisance behaviour they are
causing.
-
- Write down what it was that they did
- What time it occurred
- How it affected you.
- If the nuisance is down to excessive noise, get in touch with
the council's environmental health team on 01952 381818.
- If it is about litter or dog fouling contact the council's
environmental maintenance team on 01952 384384.
The diary that you have kept will be really helpful to them to
tackle the problem.
Ask for help
If your neighbours are tenants it may be worth talking to their
landlord. They may be breaking the terms of their tenancy
agreement, particularly if they are upsetting you by their level of
noise. Their landlord may be able to deal with the problem or warn
them that continuing to act inconsiderately could result in further
enforcement actions.
If you are being threatened with violence or if your property is
damaged, call the police straight away. The police have powers to
take action against people who are guilty of harassment. This can
be shouting, verbal abuse, threats of violence.
Even if the police are unable to help on individual occasions,
it's well worth reporting incidents to them so that they can be
recorded and used in the future if required.
