Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Beacon awards

The Borough of Telford & Wrekin has two Beacon peer mentoring programmes, a tribute to its work with partners to deliver high quality services to local people of all ages.

The beacon programmes are for:

  • Early Intervention (Children at Risk) which covers the council's work at the forefront of providing integrated multi-agency services for children.
  • Culture and Sport for Hard to Reach Groups highlighting an innovative and creative approach to engaging some of the most vulnerable in the borough through a range of projects and activities.

The Beacon Council scheme was established by government in 1999 to recognise excellent practice and support councils to act as centres of excellence and share best practice with other authorities to raise standards in local government services.

The awarding of Beacon status reflects a high standard of achievement in delivering and improving services. Telford & Wrekin has secured six Beacon awards.
