Comprehensive Performance Assessment:
Overview |
| In February 2008 the Audit Commission published their
Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) scores for 2007. The
Council is rated as an excellent '4 star' authority that is
continuing to improve well. This is the fifth year in a row that
the Council has achieved the highest
rating. | |

What is CPA?
CPA was introduced by the government in 2002 to help local
councils in England to improve their services to local people. Each
year councils are assessed by the Audit Commission (an independent
government body) on how they are performing and how they are
improving local services. In 2005, this process was changed making
it harder to achieve a high score.
The possible scores for councils are:
- 4 stars, well above minimum requirements - performing
strongly;
- 3 stars, consistently above minimum requirements - performing
well;
- 2 stars, only at minimum requirements - adequate
performance;
- 1 star, below minimum requirements - inadequate
performance.
What does this mean for Telford & Wrekin?
Our CPA assessment for 2007 told us that we are:
- the only four star unitary (all purpose) authority in the West
Midlands
- continuing to improve.
