Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places 2007

In accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983 (as amended by the Electoral Administration Act 2006) - the Council has completed the review of the Polling Districts and the Polling Places in the two parliamentary constituencies within the Borough.
The procedure for a review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations was laid down in the Representation of the People Act.

The Act also confirmed the guiding principles in a review. These included ensuring that all electors in a constituency had such reasonable facilities for voting as were practicable in the circumstances and ensuring, so far as was reasonable and practicable that every polling place was accessible to electors who were disabled.

The Council initiated the review with the publication of a Notice of Start of Review. The Council then published the proposals made by the Returning Officer for alterations. Comments were invited during a consultation period. At the end of this consultation, the Council considered the comments received and adopted an arrangement of polling districts and polling places for a period of four years, after which there was a further duty to review.

Following completion of the review that had been initiated by the Council's Licensing Committee and following approval by the Licensing Committee the new arrangements were then submitted and approved by Full Council on 6th March 2008.
