Equality and Diversity

Our objective for the Council is to be an inclusive organisation, ensuring that best practice in equality and diversity is embedded into all Council policies, strategies, operational plans, practices and service delivery.

The Council's vision for equalitiy and diversity is for a society which:

  • has a common vision and shared values;
  • improves the quality of life for all by reducing inequalities;
  • tackles discrimination;
  • builds strong cohesive communities;
  • acknowledges that diversity brings an added value to the lives of all who live, work and travel to the area.

Within the Council our work on equality and diversity operates under eight themes. These are:

Leadership

Ø To provide vision, strong leadership and make positive use of planning and funding to build stronger, inclusive and cohesive communities.

Mainstreaming Equality and Diversity
Ø To mainstream and embed equality and diversity in all aspects of Telford and Wrekin's business planning, policy, development and service delivery.

Equality and Diversity at Work

Ø To work with Human Resources to work towards creating a workforce that is fully reflective of the diverse communities.

Ø To work with other agencies to ensure that residents within the Borough are equipped with the necessary employment skills.

Ø To work with our Learning and Development services to ensure that L&D programmes reflect and communicate the Council's commitment to E&D, whilst enhancing and developing knowledge and skills.

Ø To support the development and implementation of existing and future employee support groups.

Service Delivery and Customer Care

Ø To contribute to creating a customer focus which ensures that service users and potential service users can expect the Council to deliver services that are fair and appropriate to their needs.

Ø To provide information about services that is clear, accurate and accessible to all. To provide access to a Translation and Interpretation Service for customers where information and communication may be a barrier.

 

Harassment

Ø To contribute to providing a safe living environment free from harassment and hate crimes/incidents.

Consultation, Engagement and Involvement

Ø To contribute to ensuring that all under-represented and hard to reach groups are effectively informed and involved in the decision making process of the council and other related issues that affect communities.

 

Partnership Working

Ø To work together with relevant and appropriate partners/stakeholders in the development, management and delivery of our services, and for those partners/stakeholders to have a full participative role regardless of their scale across all voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations.

Procurement

Ø To ensure that all contracts are delivered in a way which is non-discriminatory and promotes equality of opportunity.
