The key
findings of Telford & Wrekin Council's public consultation on
proposals for the proposals for the regeneration of Dawley and
Malinslee have been published. These will help inform the Council's
emerging Local Development
Framework. | |

The
redevelopment proposals focus on physical regeneration measures to
help the economy of Dawley and Malinslee as well as a range of
community and heritage schemes to help ensure the area remains a
vibrant and viable centre in the future.
The key findings of the consultation at the end of 2007 were:
80% of responders agreed with the stated aim of providing a range
of quality new housing, retail and leisure facilities, with
enhanced employment opportunities, with 50% of those strongly
agreeing.
When asked which facilities they felt were needed in the area, 59%
of responders felt public open space was important, with 49%
agreeing that children's play areas were needed and 60% wanted
leisure facilities. When asked: "What form of public open space, if
any, would you like to see in the area?" The responses were as
follows:
- 68% wanted
protected habitats for wildlife
- 60% wanted
informal seating and picnic areas;
- 58% wanted
woodland areas
- 52% wanted
improved links from Dawley and Malinslee to Telford Town Park and
Telford Town Centre;
- 52% wanted
sports / recreation areas
- 48% wanted
informal landscaped areas;
- 32% wanted
formal gardens
- 27% wanted an
ecology park
- 16% wanted
something else.
On the issue of
transport:
- 84% of
responders felt sustainable transport links and bus services were
important
- 88% felt
Improved footpaths and pedestrian routes were important and
- 64% wanted new
and improved cycle and bridle ways.
Proposals for
regeneration included a range of initiatives with the following
having particular relevance to the Town Park:
- The creation of
'Gateways' and routes to the Town Park for Dawley and
Malinslee;
- A 25 acre
ecology park and recreation area (adjacent to Town Park)
including wildlife protection and habitat
creation.
