Multi-million regeneration planned for South Telford
areas |
|
Two of the older areas of South
Telford are in line for millions of pounds of new investment under
proposals outlined by Telford & Wrekin
Council. | |
|
The plans would form part of the
Council's three year budget proposals and would see at least £4
million of new Council money invested into the regeneration of
Brookside and Sutton Hill.
The focal point for each scheme is likely to be the development of
new centres which could include new shops, homes and improved
public space.
There would also be plans to put new community facilities into
Brookside's centre.
The Council will also begin separate consultations in both areas
so that local people can shape any proposals for the regeneration
schemes.
The plans are part of the Council's £23 million investment package
to regenerate a number of areas under the Council's Borough Towns
Initiative.
Cllr Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "These
proposals would see very significant and much needed investment
come into these two areas which are some of the longest establish
parts of the new town of Telford.
"They have facilities that may have passed as good nearly 40 years
ago but today fall way short of what people expect. Our first steps
will be to ensure that we know, through consultations, what local
people's priorities are.
"With the regeneration going on in Woodside, the planned
developments for Madeley and Ironbridge, these schemes for
Brookside and Sutton Hill will over the next few years really
ensure that regeneration is evenly spread across the south of
Telford."
The council will start its Brookside consultation in February. The
consultation for Sutton Hill is planned to be held later in the
year. | |
