Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Good signs ahead for Regeneration Initiative

1st July 2008

The signs look good for Telford & Wrekin Council's major regeneration programme for the area - the Borough Towns Initiative (BTI).

The signs have gone up around one of the programme's key proposed sites - the Paddock Mount area in Dawley - to help highlight the work that is going on.

This is proposed as one of the major centrepieces for the multi-million£ regeneration of the Dawley and Malinslee area one of the biggest schemes in the BTI programme.

So far this summer, the Council has already carried out ground investigation, topographical and ecological surveys of the area that will help to support an outline planning application the Council expects to submit towards the end of the year.

The surveys, along with public consultation with local people and communities in the area, will be used to help shape a masterplan for the area's regeneration.

Cllr Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "These signs are a clear statement of our commitment to regenerate towns across the borough through the Borough Towns Initiative and of our commitment and plans for Dawley and Malinslee.

"This is one the first sites that we have but I expect that soon there will be many more across the borough as the initiative spreads and touches more and more of our centres.

Dawley Cllr Vic Tonks added: "The signs will remind people that, even though there may not be much activity here for the next few months, there is in fact a lot of important preparatory work going on that will help to pave the way for a much-needed scheme."

"We will soon be able to show people much more clearly the vision for the area and the new facilities, homes, opportunities and employment that we hope to bring to the area."

The Council launched its overall vision for the regeneration of the area with an initial public consultation last Autumn on proposals for Dawley and Malinslee.
