Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Raising awareness about alcohol misuse

31 March 2008
Alcohol Concern

The Council will help raise awareness about alcohol misuse during Alcohol Awareness Week which runs from the 7th - 14th April.

Drink calculators, diaries and leaflets on alcohol poisoning will be up for grabs from a council run exhibition. The stand will be based in the town centre on Dean Square on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th April. There'll be advice for parents about young people and alcohol. The stand will also highlight the role of the Licensing Service in issuing licences.

Councillor Denis Allen said: "Alcohol Awareness Week coincides with Council plans to tackle alcohol misuse through its 'Safe, Sensible and Social' Alcohol Misuse and Harm Reduction Strategy."

"It's hoped that through early intervention, prevention, enforcement, and treatment we can more effectively combat the consequences of excessive drinking and alcohol-fuelled noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour in the borough."

These measures will be delivered with the commitment of £100,000 of additional money year on year to partnership fund to combat alcohol misuse.

Awareness Week is being run by Alcohol Concern.
