Children's Trust
Agencies work together in partnership through the Children's Trust (see Children and Young People's Plan 2008-2011 PDF 4.6Mb, its Review 2008/09 and Refresh 2009/10 PDF 727Kb and the supporting Children's Services Strategic Needs Analysis 2009 PDF 808Kb) to improve outcomes and provide integrated services for children, young people and families. The recently published independent inspection reports of all children's services, which have been rated as good, are now available. The Joint Area Review (JAR) action plan arising from the JAR report has also now been published. The inspection reports and action plan can be found by following the links below.

The latest Laming report 'The Protection of Children in England: A Progress Report' was published in March 2009 and contains 58 recommendations covering leadership & accountability, support for children, interagency working, children's workforce, improvement & challenge, organisation & finance and legal issues. 'The protection of children in England: action plan' was published in May 2009 and contains the Government's response to Lord Laming and an action plan.

Telford & Wrekin's innovative approach to education has seen some outstanding results, with schools across the borough proving to be among the most improved in the country with their GCSE/GNVQ results. Recent data revealed the proportion of Telford pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades has risen by 4% in one year, compared to the national rate of 2%.

Education is vitally important to the growth of the area, providing a solid skill base for the many world-class multi-national companies. The Borough of Telford & Wrekin puts children and young people at the heart of its priorities. With its partners it has achieved Beacon Status for integrated children's services for its ground breaking work in delivering multi-agency services for families, children and young people.

Schools are at the heart of these new developments, such as the £70 million Hadley Learning Community which features a secondary school, primary school, special school and community facilities in a single landmark building, procured in partnership with the private sector. The school offers a range of support to the community including early years, health services and lifelong learning.
