What is family learning?
We offer opportunities
for families to spend quality time together, have fun, learn new
skills and support their children's learning. All programmes are
free and supported by creche provision.
Where do we deliver family
learning?
Activities take place in community, lifelong learning centres and
infant and primary schools and with community organisations such as
family groups, playgroups, Surestart etc.
What courses do we offer?
In the general family learning programme we offer
a variety of fun hands on activities such as cooking together,
computers, first aid, playing and learning together, craft, drama
and art workshops, science, foreign languages and we are always
developing new areas. They are suitable for adults with primary age
children but older brothers and sisters often join in.
The under fives playing and learning provide a range of
hands on practical play activities making the link between play and
the development of early learning skills.
Keeping Up with the Children courses: practical,
fun activities that give parents an understanding of how the school
curriculum is taught.
Family literacy/numeracy courses: These courses
aim to increase parents' knowledge about their school and the
curriculum and to develop parents' confidence and skills to support
their children's learning.
How do I get involved in family learning?
Contact your child's school to discuss what is on offer and keep a
look out in your local library, community or lifelong learning
centre for opportunities near you.
