Introduction
Campus Telford & Wrekin, funded through Building Schools for
the Future (BSF) and the Council is a once in a generation
opportunity to transform education and learning in the borough for
years to come. It will enable schools to work more closely together
for the benefit of all our children and young people.
This £200 million programme will create Learning Communities
through building new schools, modernising others and creating new
facilities for the local community. Learning Communities will bring
together all children and young people's services including giving
parents and carers high quality childcare close to home and provide
facilities for agencies that support families in their local
area.
Campus Telford & Wrekin will not only benefit young people, it
will also give all borough residents access to sport, cultural and
learning opportunities on school sites outside school hours, at
weekends and during school holidays. Campus Telford & Wrekin
and BSF will work at the heart of the community, for the community.
The project is a major investment in the borough and it is certain
that the programme will transform learning, improve the life
chances for all our children and young people and provide first
class local facilities for our communities.
What is Campus Telford & Wrekin?
'Campus Telford & Wrekin' is Telford & Wrekin Council's
vision to transform Telford from a new town into a modern 'Learning
City' by 2026. It means bringing together schools, Children's
Centres, health, sports, arts and leisure within 'Learning
Communities' for the benefit of children, young people and
families.
What is Building Schools for the
Future?
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a government -funded
programme to rebuild or refurbish secondary schools in
England.
It is an exciting development for Telford & Wrekin. It is the
largest single investment that Telford & Wrekin schools have
ever seen and will transform secondary education, creating
facilities that will match the needs of the 21st century.
The BSF programme will act as a major catalyst for social and
economic regeneration in Telford & Wrekin which will further
enhance our capability to deliver the five outcomes of the
government's
Every Child Matters agenda. We have
an innovative vision of improvement with the creation of a vibrant
and inclusive "Learning City" based upon the development of
"Learning Communities". These will embrace fully the Government's
strategy for children and learners, extended schools, childcare and
family suppport.
What is a Learning Community?
A Learning Community is a group of schools, both primary and
secondary, and in some cases including special schools, working
together for the benefit of all their students. They will:
- be open for longer and provide facilities at weekends and
during school holidays for the whole community
- enable students to study a wide range of subjects both
academic and vocational
- promote 'learn anywhere, anytime' through using the latest
information technology
- be available to the whole community for sport, cultural and
leisure activities
- be centres for lifelong learning, community use and an
information point about wider Council and other public
services
