| Governance Arrangements at the
Hadley Learning
Community | |
|
From 1st September 2006 governance and
leadership of the Hadley Learning Community will be under a
Federated Single Governing Body for both the primary and secondary
schools. A Temporary Federated Single Governing Body has been in
place since January 2004 until the permanent structure is
established.
The decision for a Federated Governing Body was made on the basis
of:
-
actively promoting a culture of collaboration
between the two schools beyond the traditional liaison typical of
many primary and secondary schools
-
securing a common ethos for learning and
behaviour with shared high expectations to assist continuity and
smoothing what is currently a significant change in ethos from
primary to secondary
-
ensuring better continuity and progression for
learners between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 (evidence shows that
effective transition between the Key Stages is a real challenge
which if not met, leads to under-achievement and potential
disaffection in later years)
-
securing strategic leadership of the
educational experience from 4 to 19 (this will involve partnership
working with other providers, especially Further
Education)
-
gaining economic efficiency through shared
administration, joint purchasing and sepcialist
resources
-
making best use of scarce governor time and
expertise given the demands on governors who act in a lay
capacity

The Bridge School
Given its very specific provision and different needs from
mainstream primary or secondary education, it was decided that
initially, the existing traditional governing body for The Bridge
School would be maintained. Unlike the other two schools, The
Bridge is ot a new school and in legal terms, it will simply be
re-located to a new site.
Following the establishment of the Hadley Learning Community and in
the light of experience over the first two/three years, the school
could engage in a future review and consider whether it becomes a
formal partner in a federated model.
