The Children & Young People portfolio has a large
capital programme which covers the full spectrum of children's
services ranging from schools to residential homes. Funding is
provided through a variety of sources, which include Asset
Management Planning incorporating Modernisation funding, a
formulaic allocation programmed against school buildings condition
and suitability priorities. Examples of such schemes funded through
the Asset Management Programme are the amalgamation of Leegomery
Infant and Junior Schools to create Millbrook Primary and the
replacement of the Key Stage 1 classbases at St George's CE
Primary.
In addition the Authority receives formulaic allocations to
support pupil place growth, examples include the delivery of the
new 2 form entry school at Newdale and the additional provision at
Phoenix School including science laboratories and general teaching
classes. Further funding has enabled the Authority to begin to
implement its strategy for the delivery of Children's Centres and
other early years settings, including those at Sutton Hill,
Arleston and Woodside. The Authority also has formulaic allocations
to enhance accessibility within many of its schools. Such
improvements include a new lift at Burton Borough, and a Special
Needs room at Holmer Lake Primary School.
There is also the opportunity to bid for capital funding via
specific Government initiatives such as the Targeted Capital Fund,
or ad-hoc programmes such as Classrooms of the Future. Telford
& Wrekin has benefited from both of these initiatives and been
able to deliver a new catholic primary school in Newport, and
21st century provision at both Lord Silkin and
Wrockwardine Wood CE Junior
Schools. | |
