Q: What is Building Schools for the Future (BSF)?
A: BSF is a government-funded programme to rebuild
or refurbish all secondary schools including mainstream, special
schools and pupil referral units across England by 2020.
Q: How is Campus Telford & Wrekin going to transform
schools?
A: Our overall vision is to raise achievement, aspirations and
self-esteem by creating vibrant and inclusive Learning Communities.
Campus Telford & Wrekin will change the way students learn
through the latest Information Communication Technology and
personalised learning. We will ensure our children and young people
have the very best skills to support their future careers.
Q: What is a Learning Community?
A: A Learning Community is a group of schools, both
primary and secondary and in some cases including special schools,
working together for the benefit of all their students. They
will:
- be open for longer and provide facilities at weekends and
during school holidays for the whole community.
- enable students to study a wide range of subjects both academic
and vocational
- promote 'learn anywhere, anytime' through using the latest
information technology
- be available to the whole community for sport, cultural and
leisure activities
- be centres for lifelong learning, community use and an
information point about wider Council and other public
services.
Q: How many schools are in the Telford & Wrekin
programme?
A: There are currently 16 schools in the Telford
& Wrekin BSF programme. Refer to the
'
Schools' page for more information. Madeley Academy is being
rebuilt under a separate government academies programme, not
BSF.
Q: What are the next steps?
A: Before Telford & Wrekin can start rebuilding or refurbishing
schools, it needs to develop robust plans to gain government
approval of our proposals.
'
Strategy for Change Part 1' was approved by the government in
December 2007.
For further details of the project programme, please refer to the
'Key
Dates' page.
Q: When will building commence?
A: If Telford & Wrekin are successful in their bid for funding,
building work should commence during 2011
Q: Will all schools undergo construction at the same
time?
A: No, the development is arranged over phases with a build period
of up to 5 years for the entire programme.
Q: Who will be involved in helping us deliver?
A: The construction work will be procured through a
Local Education Partnership (LEP).
4ps are providing us with hands-on support, advice, guidance and
skills development. For more information visit the
4ps
website.
Q: What is a LEP?
A: A LEP (Local Education Partnership) is a
consortium of Telford & Wrekin, Partnerships for
Schools (PfS, a non-departmental government agency) and a
commercial organisation. More information can be found at
