Borough of Telford & Wrekin

3 - Schools

Our vision is to raise achievement, aspirations and self-esteem for all in Telford & Wrekin by creating a vibrant, inclusive, "Learning City" based upon the development of "Campus Telford & Wrekin Learning Communities". These will embrace fully the Government's strategy for children and learners, extended schools, childcare and family support.
The secondary education estate in Telford & Wrekin has evolved into the current, diverse group of over 140 permanent and temporary buildings distributed across our 16 secondary schools. Some of these facilities date from the seventeenth century and over forty were constructed during the 1960s and 1970s.

BSF funding will provide a unique opportunity for Telford & Wrekin to completely overhaul the estate, providing the basis for a step change in the opportunities provided to both individual learners and the local community as a whole. It will invigorate collaborative working across our schools and be based on designs that are modern, flexible, sustainable and will facilitate improvements in teaching and learning. We will take account of issues of accessibility by pupils, staff and the community to the Learning Communities and by means other than the car.

Our proposals are set out in summary form below and are shown on the BSF Map. The extent of the programme and the timing of construction is still to be fully determined. This is dependant on the amount of funding and when it is made available by central government.
