Telford & Wrekin's innovative approach to education has seen
some outstanding results, with schools across the borough proving
to be among the most improved in the country with their GCSE/GNVQ
results. Recent data revealed the proportion of Telford pupils
achieving five or more A*- C grades has risen by 4% in one year,
compared to the national rate of 2%.
Education is vitally important to the growth of the area, providing
a solid skill base for the many world-class multi-national
companies.
The Borough of Telford & Wrekin puts children and
young people at the heart of its priorities. With its partners it
has achieved
Beacon Status for integrated children's services for its ground
breaking work in delivering multi-agency services for families,
children and young people.
Children's Trust Agencies work together
in parntership through the Children's Trust to improve outcomes
and provide integrated services for children, young people and
families.
Schools are at the heart of these new developments, such as the £70
million Hadley Learning Community which will feature a secondary
school, primary school, special school and community facilities in
a single landmark building, procured in partnership with the
private sector. The school will offer a range of support to the
community including early years, health services and lifelong
learning.
Telford is also home to two 'classrooms of the future', a
groundbreaking project funded by the Department for Education and
Skills. The Learning Innovation Centres are designed to
push the boundaries of teaching and learning and to accommodate new
educational practices not yet even thought of.
