Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Schools and colleges

Our innovative approach to education has led to some outstanding results, with schools across the borough proving to be among the most improved in the country with their GCSE/GNVQ results.

Recent data shows the proportion of Telford pupils achieving five or more A*- C grades has risen by 4% in one year, compared to the national rate of 2%.

For information about individual pupil records please contact the school.

The area is also served by a number of independent schools, as well as the nationally recognised City Technology College - Thomas Telford School.

School admissions
Deciding which school you would like your child to attend is important for parents. To help you make your decision Telford & Wrekin offers information about its schools and their admissions policies. For further infomation about school admissions please click here.

Education other than at school (EOTAS)
Most children receive their full-time education in state or private schools but a small number of parents prefer to educate their children at home. In these cases, it is our duty to monitor the effectiveness of the education received at home by Telford & Wrekin children and we seek to do this in a helpful way

Pupil exclusions
A pupil can be excluded from school when there has been a serious breach of the school's behaviour policy and when allowing the pupil to remain in school would seriously harm the education or welfare of the pupil or others in the school. Only the head teacher or teacher in charge of a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) can exclude a pupil (or the person acting on their behalf if they are absent).

Special Educational Needs.
Some children will experience learning difficulties at some stage during their school career and all schools in Telford & Wrekin provide help for children with special educational needs (SEN). The Local Education Authority (LEA) undertakes to make a wide range of provision available for children who have special educational needs with a commitment to them being educated in mainstream schools wherever possible and appropriate.
