Appeal hearings:
You will have the right to put your case in person to the independent appeal panel, whose decision is binding on both the Local Authority (LA) and parents. The panel consists of 3 people. None of them will work for the Council nor have any connection with the school concerned.

If your child has been refused a place at a Voluntary Aided or Foundation school, the school's governing body is required by law to make arrangements for you to appeal against that decision to an independent appeal panel. Please contact the school direct for information on how to pursue an appeal.

Parents are only allowed 1 appeal for a place at the same school in the same academic year, unless there has been a significant change in circumstances - for example, a change of address.

However, parents are entitled to submit appeals for more than one school.
