'Participation', 'Involvement' and
'Consultation', are all terms that are often used when talking
about how to work with children and young people to improve
services.
However, there are many different definitions given for
these concepts. Meanings can differ depending on the context in
which they are being used. For the purpose of this report:-
Participation … Where children and young people
take part in a range of child initiated activities and projects,
and their wishes and feelings are routinely gathered to influence
the design of what is offered.
Involvement…Where children and young people take
an active part in a project or process as key contributors who have
the power to shape the work as decision makers and participants who
can influence change.
Consultation…Where children and young people
take part in adult led activities aimed at explaining opinions that
might be acted upon.
