Special Educational Needs - Level 1 Core Training
This is a two part course intended for all
practitioners in a variety of settings as all practitoners are
responsible for assisting in identifying SEN and working with
children who have SEN.
By the end of this course participants will be able
to:
- Summarise definitions of Sen
- Discuss the 'norms' of development for the Foundation
Stage
- Identify 'triggers' for concern with respect to children who
may have SEN
- Explain why early identification and intervention are
important
- Explain what is meant by the graduated response as described in
the SEN Code of Practice
- Describe how the differentiated learning oppourtunites appraoch
of the Foundation Stage can accommodate many of the requirements of
children with SEN
- Describe ways of observing and recording observations and
assessment
- Discuss the purpose of early intervention
- Summarise the approach to intervention suggested in the SEN
Code of Practice
Special Educational Needs - Level 1 Core Training on
Inclusion.
This is an introductory course delivered in 3
parts by the Eduactional Psychology Service. Especially for
participants with no specific SEN experience or training. Designed
for all Early Years practitoners wishing to develop inclusive
practices for all young children, particularly those with SEN. The
course will consider developmental/learning needs of young children
in three main areas:
Session 1 - Language Communication and Interaction
- How language and social skills usually develop
- How development can vary
- How strategies can be successfully employed to minimise or
overcome difficulties in the pre-school setting
Session 2 - Learning and Play
- How children learn
- How there are different learning styles and rates of
learning
- How to recognise barriers to learning
- How play aids learning
- How inclusive strategies can be successfully employed
- How oppourtunities for assesment can be made
Session 3 - Motor Development
- How motor development usually unfolds
- How motor skills development can vary
- How strategies can be successfully employed which maximise
motor development and minimise barriers to performance.
Raising Awareness of Positive Behaviour Management - SEN
Level 1 Training
This is a basic awarness raising course for all
practitioners involved in the foundation stage curriculum. It aims
to raise awareness of positive behaviour management.
This course will enable practitoners to consider the following:
- Research on success of 'taking the positive approach'
- The importance of raising self esteem for both children and
staff
- Looking at potential conflict points
- Rules and boundaries
- Communication and social skills
- Positive in practice
- Rewards
- Consequences
Raising Young Children's Self Esteem - SEN Level 1
Training
This is a basic course for all practitioners involved in the
foundation stage curriculum. It aims to raise awareness of the
importance of developing young children's self esteem and sense of
identity.
This course will enable practitioners to consider the
following:
- The importance of self esteem and sustaining a positive
identity for very young children
- Positive relationships and attachement and the implications for
successful development and learning
- Indentifying the most likely causes of unwanted behaviour
- Strategies to promote positive self-image and attitudes - a
range of practical activities.
