SEN Level 2 Training.

In addition to the Basic Level 1 SEN training we also offer a range of higher level SEN training courses:



Understanding and Managing the more challenging behaviours of children with Autstic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) - SEN Level 2 Training

This course aims to develop an understanding of the more challenging behaviours asscociated with ASD and how to manage them. It will enable practitioners to consider the following:
  • Understanding the link between the Triad of Impairment and the challenging behaviours some people with an ASD may present
  • Looking at the difficulties a child with challenging behaviour on the Autistic Spectrum presents in a setting, including those with Aspergers.
  • Practical tips for supporting and managing these children
  • Ways of practically supporting and managing some of the difficult behaviours of children on the Autistic Spectrum through play
  • Guidance and support for parents/carers of children with ASD who present challenging behaviour
  • Case studies - making sense of challenging behaviours, developing strategies to manage them


Understanding and Managing the more Challenging Behaviour of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

This course aims to develop an understanding of the more challenging behaviours asscociated with ADHD and how to manage them. It will enable practitioners to consider the following:

  • Why practitioners need to be concerend about the effect of ADHD on behaviour
  • To recognise the importance of early intervention
  • Understanding the causes of the behaviours these children may present
  • Looking at the difficulties a child with ADHD presents in the setting
  • Practical tips and strategies for supporting and managing these children
  • ADHD, medication and diet
  • Supporting parents/carers of children with ADHD.


Fun Activities to Promote Positive Behaviour

This is a workshop intended for all early years practitoners, including childminders and aims to outline a series of techniques, movements and games to encourage children's whole brain learning and how to eliminate unwanted behaviours.

By the end of this course participants will have explored:

  • A basic understanding of the importance of recent developments in increasing children's whole brain learning
  • Practical activites, exercises and games to engage and promotes positive learning


Meeting the needs of children through a nurturing ethos

This is a workshop for all early years practitioners, including childminders, who wish to develop a nurturing ethos in their setting and to gain an understanding of the theory and practice of nurture groups.

The course will focus on the importance of meeting young children's social, emotional and behavioural needs using the 'nurturing approach' that is currently being promoted nationally.

By the end of the session participants will have explored:

  • A breif introduction into the history, characteristics and principles of the nurture group movement
  • The development of practical strategies for creating a nurturing ethos
  • The importance of attachment in the emotional and social development of young children

Raising Awareness of Positive Behaviour Management - SEN Level 2 Training

This is a level 2 awarness raising course for all practitoners involved in the Foundation Stage Curriculum, which aims to develop awareness of positive behaviour management.

This course will enable practioners to consider the following:

  • Taking the fun out of misbehaving
  • Observing children's behaviour
  • Using the ABC (antecedent, behaviour, consequence) approach
  • Changing the ABC
  • Behavioural concerns
  • Making sense of behaviour
  • Practical strategies
  • Positively involving parents

Being a SENCo in Early Years Settings

This course is delivered in 3 parts by the Educational Psychology Service and is intended for SEN Co-ordinators in Early Years Settings.

The Course will consider:

  • Working with parents and colleagues
  • Devising individual education plans
  • Developing an SEN policy

Session 1 covers:

  • The background to inclusion and SEN
  • Supporting others
  • Working with Parents

Session 2 covers:

  • Constructing individual education plans
  • setting effective targets
  • reviewing and monitoring complex needs ('Statementing')

Session 3 covers:

  • Supporting the transition to the next setting
  • and finally bringing it all together in your SEN/Inclusion policy
