A2 installations are multi-media controlled installations
and are regulated by the council in the following
areas:
| |
- Air pollution emissions
- Land contamination
- Emissions to water
- Effects on Flora and Fauna
- Noise emissions (this is one of the exception where noise is
dealt with by a permit rather than under statutory nuisance)
- Energy Efficiency
- Waste minimisation
A2 installations fall within part A2 of Schedule 1 the Pollution
Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000 (as
amended). Within Telford there are:
- 2 Galvanizing installations
- 3 Foundry installations
- 1 coating installation
- 3 surface treatment activities
- 1 Brickworks
Each of the A2 installation typically becomes A2 when exceeding
a production threshold, i.e more than 10tonnes molten metal/day, or
consumption of more that 200tonnes of solvent per annum. In such
circumstances the operator is required to make an application. The
application is a detailed document setting out what the operator
actually undertakes, how it is monitored and controlled as well as
what standards it has to meet. The council follow the standard
procedure in respect of A2 applications.
An application form is available by following the appropriate link
to the application form. The application fees for the current year,
can be found by navigating to the DEFRA website.
