Food and Health and Safety

This page details the areas of work that covered by the Food and Health & Safety Team in detail.

 

Food Safety and Hygiene:

1. Undertake programmed inspections of food premises in accordance with the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 (see new regulations page).

2. Respond to all complaints regarding food and food premises in the borough.

3. Assess and respond to Food alerts issued by the Food Standards Agency.

4. To be an active, participating member of the Shropshire Food Liaison Group.

5. Carry out routine food sampling in the borough.

Infectious Diseases:

1. Investigate all notifications of suspected food poisoning and confirmed cases of Salmonella, Campylobacter, E Coli, Listeria, Giardia, Shigella, Cryptosporidium, Hepatitis A and other food poisoning and infectious diseases.

2. To determine whether there is a food poisoning outbreak, the source and to prevent further illness.

3. To liaise where necessary with the Consultant in Communicable Disease Control and the Public Health Laboratory Service.

Health and Safety at work:

1. To undertake programmed inspections of work places in the Private Sector as determined by the Enforcing Authority Regulations 1998.

2. To respond to all workplace complaints regarding safety issues in premises enforced by the team.

3. To assess all accident notifications under the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 and investigate when deemed appropriate.

Water Supply:

1. To monitor the quality of water in the public supply in the borough.

2. To monitor the quality of water in public swimming pools and spa pools.

3. To maintain an accurate register of all private water supplies in borough.

4. To take part in pesticide surveys.

5. T o sample private water supplies in accordance with the Private Water Supply Regulations 1991.

Training:

To organise and tutor on the following course:-

1. To develop health campaigns that address issues covered in the Health of the Nation document and Health Improvement Programme areas.
