Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Scores on the doors - What is 'Scores on the doors'

The public appears to be developing an interest for knowing what goes on behind the closed doors of food businesses. Since the Freedom of Information Act 2000 came into force, Local Authorities are now obliged to release food hygiene inspection reports on request. During this period Environmental Health Departments and Central Government agencies have considered the introduction of schemes to publish the hygiene scores of food premises; in fact many local authorities are already doing this.

From the 1st June 2008 it is considered desirable for customers to have access to food hygiene information in order for them to make informed choices as to where they may wish to shop or to eat out within the borough of Telford and Wrekin. The council will be using a "scores on the doors" scheme published on the council's website. This will allow everyone in the borough to know what the standards of food hygiene are like in your food business.
