Scores on the doors - How the scheme works

Following the primary food hygiene inspection carried out in accordance with the Food Service Plan. An officer will rate the business using the scheme set out in Annex V Food Law Code of Practice. From this rating we will award a food business star rating depending on how well they performed in terms of the following three areas:

 

  • The current level of compliance with food hygiene practices and procedures, including cleaning practices, temperature control and potential contamination from raw to cooked food.

 

  • The current level of compliance relating to the structure of the premises including the state of repair of the walls, floors, ceiling, lighting, ventilation and washing facilities etc

 

  • Confidence in the management of the business including having and using a documented Food Safety Management System and adequate training/supervision of all food staff.
