Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Local Development Framework (LDF)

We are preparing a new plan for the borough for the period 2006-2021. The new plan will seek to build on the good work and practices established through the current Wrekin Local Plan bringing it up to date to tackle new issues facing the borough.
The Wrekin Local Plan has an end date of 2006, however, the Plan will be saved at least until September 2007 and as such will still form part of the Development Plan for the borough, together with the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS).

The Telford & Wrekin Local Development Framework (LDF) will provide a long term development vision for the borough through to 2021. Unlike the current and previous local plans it will not be a single document, it will be in a compendium format made up of :

A New Form of Plan
The Government has made significant changes to the development plans system through the new Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 that came into force on 28th September 2004. As a result of these changes the replacement plan is being prepared in the format of a Local Development Framework - this will take the form of a package of different local development documents dealing with different aspects of spatial planning.

The reason for changing the way plans are prepared is to make them clearer, providing a more wide ranging vision for development. They will have a greater focus on delivering the vision of the plan and will be easier to keep up to date. Greater community involvement is also at the heart of the changes being introduced.
