Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Wrekin Local Plan

The Wrekin Local Plan was formally adopted by Telford & Wrekin Council in February 2000. This was the first borough wide Development Plan for Telford & Wrekin. It is currently being superseded by Local Development Framework (LDF) documents.

Together, the Wrekin Local Plan and adopted LDF documents currently form the Development Plan for the Borough and set out a range of policies and proposals aimed at achieving sustainable development locally. The Spatial Development Strategy for the Borough, contained within the LDF Core Strategy document, is to concentrate the majority of development in Telford, with limited growth in Newport and the rural area of the Borough to meet local housing and employment needs.
The adopted Proposals Map that accompanies the Wrekin Local Plan and the Key Diagram that accompanies the LDF Core Strategy, illustrate local planning policies and proposals, including those areas where development will take place.
Planning Policies beyond September 2007
As part of the transition to the new Local Development Framework (LDF) planning system, not all Wrekin Local Plan policies remain part of the Development Plan. After 27th September 2007, only those Wrekin Local Plan policies that have been approved by the Secretary of State as "saved policies" can remain part of the Development Plan.

"Saved policies" are those that have been considered necessary to remain in place until such a time as new policies emerge through LDF documents to replace them.

Wrekin Local Plan "Saved Policies"
The Secretary of State has approved 88 policies of the Wrekin Local Plan to be remain after 27th September 2007. These will continue to form part of the Development Plan and be used in assessing Planning Applications, until such time as they are superseded by new Local Development Framework policy. Policies not included within this list expired on 27th September 2007.
