In the Borough of Telford & Wrekin we produce over 86,000 tonnes of waste each year, more than a tonne of waste per household. The management of this waste has implications for everyone who lives and works in the Borough.

The introduction of alternate week collections has trebled the amount of material we recycle.

In 2006/2007 we recycled 35% of the waste produced.

In June 2005 the Council adopted the new Waste Management Strategy 2005 -2021 - From Waste To Resource that looks at how to deal with the Borough's waste in the future. We will maximise recycling to reduce the amount of waste we have to dispose of. The Waste Management Strategy also proposes to reduce the amount of waste that we send to landfill through alternative disposal methods. By doing this we can save natural resources and reduce the impact that the waste produced by the borough has on the environment.

As part of the implementation of the waste strategy the Council invited expressions of interest from companies interested in the Council's residual municipal waste treatment and disposal service contract.

There are three companies currently involved in this process:

  • TEC Consortium
  • Focsa Services (UK) Ltd
  • Interserve Project services UK Ltd
