Do's
- Do use a registered waste carrier and disposer.
- Do ask for your waste collectors waste management number.
- Do ask where your waste is being taken.
- Do ask what is going to happen to your waste e.g. landfilled or
reprocessed.
- Do remember to sign a consignment note when your waste is
collected.
- Do segregate and recycle your waste wherever possible.
- Do search for companies who will collect and recycle your waste
in favour of disposal.
Don'ts
- Don't use a waste management company before carrying out your
'Duty of Care' checks.
- Don't take your business waste to any of the Community
Recycling Centres in Telford. These are for household waste
only.
- Don't put hazardous waste in a normal refuse bin. Further
information on dealing with Hazardous Waste is available on the
Environment Agency and
DEFRA websites.
- Don't let generic waste carriers take away hazardous waste.
Hazardous waste carriers and disposers will have special licenses
to provide this service.
- Don't flytip your waste. This is a prosecutable
offence, punishable by a fine up to £50,000 and/or 12 months in
prison.
