Environmental Education Programme

Globally, environmental issues such as climate change, energy and water resources and waste management are getting more and more press coverage. They are of increasing concern for many people, including Telford & Wrekin Council.
Although recycling remains a chief concern for Telford and Wrekin Council, we are keen to teach young people the importance of making effective use of the earth's natural resources.
Telford and Wrekin Councils Environmental Education Officer will be working with local schools to encourage them to function more sustainably and to help educate pupils about a range of environmental issues. This will include energy efficiency, water conservation, managing waste effectively and recycling, where possible.
A key part of this work is the Waste Less @ School Project, where students undertake a School Waste Audit and create a Waste Less Action Plan.
Along with this the Environmental Education Officer is also available to speak to youth community groups such as Scouts and Brownies.
A Resource Pack for use in Telford and Wrekin schools is being created, allowing teachers to deliver activities and lessons specifically designed to educate on waste, recycling, energy and water resources.

Yellow Woods Challenge
Schools in Telford and Wrekin Council are reminded that in 2009 the Yellow Woods Challenge will not be running.
The reason for this is the very positive news that Telford residents are now able to place Yellow pages in their kerbside box for recycling.
Residents are reminded that Yellow Pages need to be removed from their cellophane wrapping before being placed in the red kerbside box for recycling.
