Recycling Groups

Recycling Groups in Telford.
Recycling Groups aim to advance recycling as the main method of waste management, which is perceived as better than burying waste in the ground. In addition burying rubbish contributes to the greenhouse effect by releasing methane gas as materials start to rot.

Telford Waste Action (TWA)

Is a recycling group lead by community volunteers from across Telford. The group was formed in the 1990's and meets once a month.

Meetings involve discussions about recycling. Guest speakers attend and talk to members about their specialist knowledge and council staff update members on the latest local initiatives. In addition TWA visits recycling facilities to learn about different ways of dealing with waste.

In the future members aim to develop projects that help to reduce the amount of waste that's produced within Telford. The group has been involved in the consultation on the waste management strategy, and offers feedback to Telford & Wrekin Council on current recycling issues.

Telford Waste Action welcomes new members. It's free to take part. For further information about how to get involved in the group contact The Waste Management Unit on 01952 384215
Mandy Gregory Waste Not Want Not
Waste not, Want Not - Donnington

Waste Not, Want Not is a waste minimisation initiative based in the Donnington area of Telford that is lead by a local volunteer, Mandy Edwards. Since 2006 Mandy has organised a one stop shop at Donnington Lifelong Learning Centre, answering questions about recycling and issues relating to waste reduction. In addition Mandy has organised a series of events promoting a range of subjects from real nappies to home composting. Mandy has made such a concerted effort in her local area that in October 2007 she was shortlisted for a national recycling award that celebrates the hard work of local volunteers like Mandy.

In the future Telford & Wrekin Council hope to support the development of more recycling groups.
