Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) |
"A Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is the means
by which Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and local authorities will
describe the future health, care and well-being needs of local
populations and the strategic direction of service delivery to meet
those needs."

Well-Being'

The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act
2007 requires local authorities and PCTs to produce a Joint
Strategic Needs Assessment of the health and wellbeing of its local
community.
Essentially, by undertaking the JSNA, we will have the information
and insight to enable us to more fully understand the needs of our
local communities. It will also provide the vision of how we can
best meet those needs now and in the future. It will provide an
even stronger basis for us to make informed decisions about
services that we provide and will be a key evidence base for the
'Health and Well Being Strategy' that is
jointly developed by the PCT and the Council.
Further information about the JSNA is available from the following
Department of Health website.
How are Telford planning to develop the
JSNA?
To produce a comprehensive JSNA and more fully understand our
local communities' needs requires significant work to be
undertaken. It will co-ordinate, evaluate and build upon our
current knowledge and information sources, and it will explore in
depth emerging issues relevant to the health and well being of
Telford's people.
The Department of Health have specified that by 1st April 2008,
all local authorities should start working towards producing a
JSNA. In Telford we started working towards our first JSNA in the
autumn of 2007 and our first phase of development was the
production of a 'Health and Well Being Foundation Report' in
October 2007.
This presents an initial overview of important background
information relating to the health and well being of the people of
Telford. It provides an initial context for some decision-making
and will ensure that 'priority-planning' decisions are based upon
consistent evidence based demographic and community profile
data.
The JSNA will supersede this report and build upon this
information to provide detailed analysis of the needs of the people
of Telford.
