The service is available to older people and anyone with a
physical disability and/or sensory impairment living in our
area.
The service aims to provide vulnerable people, who often live
alone and cannot cater for themselves, with nutritional meals.
The council contracts with two providers to deliver meals direct
to people's homes; the WRVS who are responsible for providing the
hot meal service and Wiltshire Farm Foods, who provide the frozen
meals. Various deliveries take place throughout the week by both
contractors. On the direct frozen delivery service, people can also
have access to a Servtherm (which heats frozen meals to the correct
temperature) and to a table top freezer. Both of these items are
delivered free of charge to people who receive the meals.
Those who get this service are entitled to receive up to seven
meals per week. The current cost of the meals is £2.65 for a
complete meal; £2.10 for the main course and 55p for the pudding on
the hot service. Clients on the direct frozen delivery pay £2.65
regardless of whether they have a pudding.
How you pay for the Community Meals
For the hot meals service, you can pay a number of ways:
you can pay the WRVS volunteer delivering the meal
or
we can invoice you or your family direct as requested
or
we can set up a standing order
Most people pay direct to the WRVS volunteer and we have a few
that we invoice directly, as normally a third party is paying for
the service, usually a family member. We do not set up many
standing orders, because people's needs change, for example because
of hospital admissions, holidays and respite periods.
For the direct frozen delivery service, the client has a
contract with the supplier; which is Wiltshire Farm Foods and pays
the supplier direct for this service.
The cost per meal for both services is £2.65 (this is increased
each year in line with inflation).
Clients wishing to go on the community meals service need to
phone in to the older people's duty 01952 381280 for an over the
phone assessment or if it is part of a care package, then the meals
assessment is undertaken as part of that
assessment. |
