Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Services for older people

A range of services for older people, and those with a physical disability, are available to help you remain independent, have a good quality of life and enjoy social activities and work.

Some of the services we deliver include:

  • care at home
  • community meals (meals on wheels)
  • low level preventative support services
  • day care
  • employment
  • equipment for daily living
  • adaptations
  • residential and nursing home care
  • intermediate care services
  • falls prevention
  • occupational therapy

There are links to some of these on the right.

We provide an assessment, care management and review service for adults. We directly provide, or purchase, care and support services for prevention, rehabilitation and long term care to support people to continue to live at home, and where this is not possible to provide support for residential and nursing care.

Services such as our low level preventative support service, community meals, falls prevention and so on may help you remain living at home, but if you need residential or nursing home care, we can help you find out how much you will have to pay and so on. Information on this help can be found through the links on the right.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Their aim is to make sure better care is provided for everyone, whether that's in hospital, in care homes, in people's own homes, or elsewhere.

They regulate health and adult social care services, whether provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations. They also seek to protect the interests of people whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act. To find out more about CQC and local services that are registered with CQC, view the Care Quality Commission website* (opens new window).

To learn more about developing local services which will assist and support older adults living in Telford and Wrekin, see our Older People's Strategy (pdf 974.20Kb).
