Advice for Owner-occupiers |
| If you are thinking about moving, there are a number of
options available to you. These are shown
below. | |
What can I do if I would like to move?
If you are thinking about moving, there are a number of options
available to you. You may wish to buy a new property or move into a
property rented from either a housing association or a private
landlord. You can find further information on each of these options
by following the link to the 'Finding a home' page.
You need to know that if you sell your own home and then find
yourself homeless, this may affect the assistance which we are able
to offer to you.
If you are considering selling your property but think that you
may not have anywhere else to live, you should contact the Housing
Options Team before selling your home.
What should I do if I am having difficulty paying my
mortgage?
If you are having difficulties paying your mortgage, you
need to act quickly. The longer the problem is left, the
harder it is to deal with.
The council's Housing Options Team can advise you on what action
you need to take and what options are available to you, which may
include payment suspensions or interest-only payments.
The Housing Options Team can also give you details of the Home
Owners Advice Service run by the Citizens Advice Bureau.
What should I do if my property needs repairing or
adapting?
For information on looking after your home, please follow the link
to the 'Private Housing' page where you will find further
information for owner occupiers.
How can I make my home warmer and more energy efficient?
The Telford Energy Efficiency Advice Centre can provide lots of
practical advice and information on energy efficiency and what is
available to you as a home owner. Simply follow the link to the
'Energy Efficiency' page for further assistance.
How can I make my home safer?
For information and advice on how to make your home safer, please
follow the link to the 'Home Safety' page on the right hand side of
this page.
Representation in Court If your mortgage
provider takes legal action to evict you from the property, the
Housing Options Team can advise and represent you through the legal
process.
The longer you wait to get advice, the harder it will become to
keep you in your home and if your mortgage provider asks the Court
to make you leave, you may have to pay Court costs as
well. | |
