The Telford and Wrekin District Sports Advisory Council
was founded in 1974. It is a voluntary, non profit making
organisation which exists in an advisory capacity and is the only
umbrella organisation for sport within the Telford & Wrekin
area.
The main aims of the Sports Council are:
- To act as consultees on distributing Coach
Development Officials and Sports Scholarship Fund grants.
- To assess sporting needs and advise on how
these can best be met.
- To assist the local authority on the
future planning of leisure facilities.
- To continue to encourage active
participation in sport by local school leavers, people with
disabilities, socially excluded and retired.
- To provide information and expertise on
sport within the Borough.
- To act as a consultee on Lottery and other
funding agencies.
The Sports Advisory Council meets at least eight times a year
for a mix of formal committee meetings, guest speakers, workshops
and site visits. There is also an annual social.
Subscription is £10 per annum.
