Hole 1 - 338 yards
The first hole is not
long, but there are many dangers including out of bounds on the
left and a big bunker on the right. For these reasons I recommend
an iron from the tee leaving your ball short of the bunker,
followed by a short iron into the bunker protected green.
Hole 2 - 384 yards S.I.14
A downhill dog leg from left to right. My tip here is to hit the
ball slightly right of the marker pole to find you the best line
into the green. Again the green is well protected with two bunkers
and a stream.
Hole 3 - 349 yards
This hole plays back up the hill and invariably into the wind. It
is a tough driving hole and unless an arrow straight drive is
struck, the fairway bunkers are waiting. The approach shot must be
hit towards the right side of the green to avoid the greenside
bunker.
Hole 4 - 191 yards
A great par 3, long and challenging. I have often hit as much as a
3 wood into this hole. Three large bunkers protect the green, a
nett par here is a great score.
Hole 5 - 385 yards
A right to left dog leg, thick rough to the left of the fairway
and a plantation of trees and a bunker to the right of the fairway
make this another challenging drive. A big bunker to the right of
the green means an approach shot directed at the left hand side is
preferable.
Hole 6 - 335 yards
An arrow straight hole that usually plays downwind, drivable for
the long hitters in the summer. For those who can not reach the
green, two iron shots is a sensible percentage play that should
reward a nett birdie.
Hole 7 - 422 yards
Out of bounds is in play all the way down the left of the drive.
The hole is a sharp right to left dog leg so if you play too safe
away from the out of bounds the hole gets considerably longer. The
approach shot must avoid two ditches and a deep bunker to find the
putting surface.
Hole 8 - 185 yards
The signature hole of the
course. A beautiful approach over a large lake to a green guarded
by two bunkers, it is not a long hole but underestimate it at your
peril.
Hole 9 - 481 yards
This hole is etched with danger, out of bounds left and a lateral
water hazard running all the way down the right for the first 300
yards. The fairway narrows to no more than 20 yards before turning
right and going uphill to the green. Three big bunkers make the
approach tough and when you finally get to the green some very
difficult slopes await you.
Wrekin Side
Hole 10 - 286 yards
A pretty straightforward start to the back 8, uphill with two
bunkers guarding the right side of the green. My tip here would be
to play your tee shot to the left side of the fairway to give you a
better angle into the green.
Hole 11 - 384 yards
A slight dog leg right to left. My tip here is to keep your drive
to the right, as there is a bunker and a ditch on the left of the
fairway, this again is a difficult approach with the right hand
bunker very much in play.
Hole 12 - 473 yards
A long challenging par 5, with out of bounds all the way down the
left of the hole and a well-bunkered green. A nett par here is
always a good score.
Hole 13 - 309 yards
A well struck drive leaves you with a short iron approach, however,
you must avoid the big bunker left and the small pond to the right
of the green. This hole takes you to the furthest point of the
course with panoramic views of the Wrekin.
Hole 14 - 200 yards
Another difficult par 3 requiring a long iron, the green is guarded
by a bunker left and right. My tip here is to play to the front of
the green, as over the back is a 40-yard bank down to the next
tee.
Hole 15 - 328 yards
Not a long hole, but tee out of bounds left and 3 fairway bunkers
mean that a precise tee shot is needed. The green is quite open,
but anything left can bounce dangerously close to the out of
bounds.
Hole 16 - 142 yards
Although this is ranked the easiest hole of the course, the left to
right sloping fairway and green makes it tricky to make a par. My
tip is to play left and allow for a left to right bounce.
Hole 17 - 365 yards
An interesting hole with the green well below the level of the
fairway. This is a thinker's hole. My tip is to play a long iron
into position down the left side of the fairway, then land your
short iron approach shot short of the green allowing it to bounce
forward.
Hole 18 - 417 yards
A great finishing hole.
A solid drive will get you to the corner of the right to left dog
leg. From there you need a long iron approach to the green guarded
by a left bunker and a left stream, this hole is fraught with
danger and can be a real card
