Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Let's Get Physical

Introduction
Telford & Wrekin Council Leisure Services team, Let's Get Physical Team and Education have teamed up to support children across the borough to lead an active and healthy life and to provide opportunities to reach the recommended levels of physical activity.
Aim
Children and young people should be active for one hour on most days of the week. The 60 minute target does not all have to be done at once and can be achieved through accumulating bouts of activity throughout the day. It might be walking to and from school, PE lessons, active play at break time or playing sport.
There are many health benefits from being active as a child. Physical activity can help build a healthy heart, and promotes the development of strong muscles and bones. It helps maintain a healthy bodyweight and provides opportunities to meet other children and make friends

School Sport Partnerships To Increase participation For Young People
The Madeley Court and Phoenix School Sport Partnerships are working with all primary, secondary and special schools in the Borough to meet the government's objective of increasing participation in high quality PE and School Sport.
The partnerships are led by two Partnership Development Managers, Jamie White (Madeley Court) and Alison Day (Phoenix) who is responsible for ensuring that the government's targets are met. They are supported by a team of School Sport Co-ordinators and Primary Link Teachers who will enhance the sporting opportunities for the young people in their schools.
The funding that the partnerships receive is being used to develop a range of initiatives that will increase participation in high quality PE and School Sport. These include releasing teachers to attend training courses and deploying specialist coaches to work alongside teachers to increase participation in high quality curriculum PE and Out of School Hours Learning.
