All libraries in Telford & Wrekin hold a local
history collection consisting of books and maps relating to the
local
area. | |
These can be traced using the
library
online catalogue. More extensive collections are held at
Telford,
Madeley and
Wellington Libraries.
You will not find unique original local records in your local
library: these are kept at
Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury which is the
legal repository for the whole of historic Shropshire.
The Library Service holds copies of the following records,
covering the areas and communities now within the borough, in
micro-film or fiche formats.
The majority of these copies are available at
Telford Library where there are two fiche readers, a fiche/film
reader/printer and a film reader. If you wish to use one of these
machines, please telephone the library on 01952 382918 and book a
place. The use of the machines is free. Prints from the
reader/printer costs 50p per A4 sheet. There is also a film reader
at
Newport Library - access by appointment, please ring 01952
382965.
Samples of many of these original resources and other documents can
be found in the
Parish Pack series of publications.
