BT Exchanges

Royal Mail
Online postcode finder and address finder facilities. 15 free searches allowed per day.

This website is intended to be the first port of call for anyone thinking about searching for or making contact with birth and adopted relatives. There's information about recent changes to the legislation, the right to make or refuse contact, finding intermediary service providers and information about Adoption Contact Registers.

After Adoption ActionLine
A voluntary adoption agency and one of the largest providers of adoption support services in the UK. Their free ActionLine can give advice on tracing birth parents and tracing adopted people.

FamilyRecords.gov.uk - Topics - Adoption
Provides details of where to go for information and what information is available.

General Register Office - Adoptions
Includes information on the Adopted Children Register, access to birth/adoption records, and the Adoption Contact Register for adopted people or their birth relatives wishing to make contact with each other.

Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion's Lost Trails section is for making contact with old Service friends and colleagues or searching for news of former comrades and their families.

Missing People

Missing People (formerly National Missing Persons Helpline)
A UK charity dedicated to helping missing people and supporting their families while they wait for news. For those who wish to call home, have information about a missing person, or are concerned about a missing friend or relative.

MissingKids
A police website dedicated to finding missing and abducted children. Photographs can be searched by time, period and location.

People-finding Services

British Red Cross
The British Red Cross run a tracing and message service. They can help with Tracing family members internationally where the family has been separated and has lost contact due to war or disaster. These may be recent conflicts or relate to past conflicts, such as World War II.

Look4them
A gateway site set up by nine organisations which specialise in helping to find missing people or those who have lost contact with their families.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army run a family tracing service. The aim is to restore (or sustain) family relationships, by tracing relatives with whom contact has been lost, either recently or in the distant past.
