BMX/Cycle Trails Parks

There are 12 BMX tracks / BSX / Cycle Trails tracks to meet the needs of young people in the area.

A BMX Club has started in Telford - for more details contact us on 01952 382323 or www.geocities.com/wrekinriders/. Weekly FREE sessions by British Cycling qualified, CRB checked, first aid qualified coaches are provided at Leegomery (11am - 12pm) and Malinslee (1pm - 2pm).
Ketley Recreation Ground BMX Track has been removed on safety grounds to make way for the Telford Millennium Community Development. A replacement is proposed within the development later in the scheme.
Malinslee BMX Track & Trails are now open. Malinslee Xtreme secured funding for their BMX/Trail. This track is the largest in the West Midlands.
Plans, by young people, for a new track/trails are currently being investigated to serve Lawley and Dawley Bank.
Hills Lane and Stirchley BMX tracks have had major upgrades. Strichley BMX Track is downhill and slightly more challenging than most of the other tracks.
An upgrade of the Overdale BMX track is being investigated for 2008.
A small cycle area is being investigated for Aqueduct for 2008.
A mountain bike pump track is being investigated in Arleston for 2008.
A national sized BMX Track is currently being investigated in a feasibility study to identify if it is needed in the area / can be located.
These are currently targeting varying abilities, ranging from junior to expert.

The current sites are:

  • Aintree Close, Leegomery (BMX & BSX): Near regional size with starting gate - Junior Expert
  • Brookside Roundabout, Stirchley (BMX): Junior - Expert
  • Daddlebrook, Hollinswood (BMX): Junior
  • Donnington Recreation Ground (BMX): Junior
  • Hills Lane Madeley (BMX): Junior - Intermediate
  • Hollies Road, Wellington (BMX): Junior
  • Malinslee Playing Field (BMX & BSX): near regional size with starting gate: Junior - Expert
  • Norbroom Park, Newport (BMX/BSX): Junior - Expert
  • Rock Road, Overdale (BMX): Junior
  • Wellington Road, Admaston (Cycle Track): Junior
  • Wellswood Avenue, Ketley Bank (BMX): Junior
  • Wombridge Skatepark (BSX): Junior - Expert

A strategy is currently being drawn up to look at upgrading existing sites and potentially looking at providing new sites in areas of demand.
A new club based at the Leegomery track is to be the first BMX Club in the West Midlands. The club has now secured funding to obtain kit/equipment/training and transport in order to compete in regional/national competitions.
