Dale End Park

Buildwas Road, Coalbrookdale, Telford
Opening Times: Daily, dawn to dusk

Dale End Park is situated in the valley of the River Severn at Ironbridge. The site has been used for informal recreation since 1870 and contains a variety of specimen trees including maple, willow, horse chestnut, maidenhair, douglas fir, giant redwood and a tulip tree. The park also contains formal summer bedding displays and is within easy walking distance of the Ironbridge.

History:
In 1926, an area of land, to the west of the present park, (known as the meadow) was graded into a plateau to enable sports and social events to be staged by Coalbrookdale Social Club. This area later became known as the Regatta Playing Field (named after the Rowing Regatta held by the Ironbridge Rowing Club since 1870). In the late 1970's, Telford Development Corporation formerly established Dale End Park by incorporating Eastfield House Gardens and land from the Valley Hotel. Eastfield House was once the home of the Webb family, Captain Matthew Webb being the first person to swim the English Channel in 1875.
Many of the mature tree specimens were planted by Rowden Smith, the managing director of the Craven-Dunhill Tile Factory in Jackfield and a resident of Eastfield House.
