1757 - 2007 Thomas Telford

2007 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great engineer, Thomas Telford

Thomas Telford was the the first President of the Institution of Civil Engineers and was renowned in his day as the "Colossus of Roads". The pre- eminent road, canal and bridge builder of the age, Thomas Telford gives his name to the new town in Shropshire where he was appointed its first County Surveyor in the 1780s and where so many of his works can still be seen. A year long series of events in 2007 in Telford and Shropshire will celebrate his life and work.
